In recent years the existence of a broad range of situations that we encompass within the global term violence at school has given rise to great deal of public discussion and numerous references in the media. In the light of all this CIES has developed a line of research that has been questioning the conceptions involved in the debate from a sociological standpoint. In doing so we have constantly sought to compare the theoretical and the empirical research in the field and have paid particular attention to the analysis and exploration of all the different shapes taken by the phenomenon of school violence.
