Abstract
This article tries to show that the interest of Vergílio Ferreira in the painting of Roualt The Old King, several times mentioned throughout his Works, is related with the core of the problematic of the author. Indeed, the existential questioning has to do with the absence of God that the absence, feebleness or degradation of the Father of the vergilian characters echoes on Earth and deeply marked the entire Work of Vergílio Ferreira. This absence and feebleness is isomorph of the feebleness and degradation of the old King, that Lear also is represents, Lear which is sometimes associated by Vergílio Ferreira to the Roualt’s old King.
