Abstract

This paper presents a general nonlinear theory for several Wien-oscillator amplitude control techniques. Steady-state solutions for frequency, phase and amplitude are derived. The analysis is based on the approximation of the Wien-oscillator to the Van der Pol oscillator. The added value of this work is to present an analytical method to obtain the fundamental characteristics of the Wien type oscillators and clearly relating these characteristics with the physical parameters and components of the circuit. Also, the sensitivity of the circuit to external variables, like ambient temperature, is shown. Simulation results that validate the theory are presented and discussed.
