Abstract

The aim of this study was to carry out a systematic review of the use of virtual reality in the rehabilitation process in individuals with spinal cord injury. All the articles used were obtained through the PubMed and B-On databases and were published between the years 2000 and 2016. Throughout this review some games that use virtual reality in the rehabilitation processes are mentioned, as well as their role in the physical and psychological improvements observed in individuals. With this review it’s possible to conclude that the use of virtual reality in rehabilitation therapies, in cases of spinal cord injury and also in neurological pathologies, has been increasing due to all the studies (although still scarce) already made, which prove the utility and benefit of this technology in rehabilitation. However, more research is needed in this area, in this case and in others, so that the use of this technology is completely integrated into rehabilitation therapies.
