Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

Abstract

The article departs from the signifi cant results of the INVENT.ARQ project, dedicated to the study of archival inventories of family archives, from the fi fteenth to the nineteenth centuries, benefi ting also from the following research, which has resulted in the discovery and (still progressing) study of some more ten inventories. The text opens with a description of the documentary material, on to discussing the questions and problems posed by its scientifi c use, and suggest some avenues of historical and archival research coming from and using ancient inventories of family archives. The essay is most of all of a methodological and pedagogical character, thinking in particular of the growing interest from young researchers. It offers a refl ection on the difficulties encountered during an extended period of work on this type of source.
