Un jardin oublié: le Château-Neuf de La Flèche: Éléments pour une reconstitution (XVIe- XVIIIe s.)

Le château Renaissance bâti à La Flèche (Sarthe, 72) au milieu du XVIe a totalement disparu à la suitedes transformations ultérieures du site en collège, aujourd’hui Prytanée militaire national. Enrevanche, le vaste espace vert qui fait face aux bâtiments porte le souvenir du parc et du jardin qui onttraversé les siècles. La présente étude s’attache à cette histoire en tentant de reconstituer à l’aide desdocuments existants les éléments d’un paysage périurbain tels qu’ils ont pu se présenter dans leurenvironnement royal d’origine puis pédagogique.

The Renaissance castle built in La Flèche (France, Sarthe) in the beginning of the 1540’s does not exist anymore due to later transformations into a Jesuit college and, from the 19th Cent., into an army school, the present Prytanée militaire national. On the other hand, in the vast open space in front of the building still remain traces of the previous garden and park that have come through the centuries. This study deals with early-modern story of this space. Thanks to various documents, it tries to recreate parts of a perirurban landscape such as they may have existed in their original environment, first royal and then paedagogical.
