Abstract

Baculovirusesareinsectvirusesextensivelyexploitedaseukaryoticproteinexpressionvectors.Molecularbiologystudieshaveprovidedexcitingdiscoveriesonvirus–hostinter-actions,buttheapplicationofomichigh-throughputtechniquesonthebaculovirus–insectcellsystemhasbeenhamperedbythelackofhostgenomesequencing.Whileabroader,systems-levelanalysisofbiologicalresponsestoinfectionisurgentlyneeded,recentadvancesonproteomicstudieshaveyieldednewinsightsontheimpactofinfectiononthehostcell.Theseworksarereviewedandcriticallyassessedinthelightofcurrentbiologicalknowledgeofthemolecularbiologyofbaculovirusesandinsectcells.
