TIC e idosos na perspetiva teórico-social ligada ao processo de envelhecimento

Studies show that the information and communication technologies are important elements for the quality of the process of growing old. This article has the objective of examining how theories and theoretical models can help us to reflect about the transformations that occur in the course of life of old individuals, as well as the adjustments to the transformations in the technological context. In the gerontechnology perspective, we discuss the theories of life course, the concept of generation, the theories of disengagement and activity, the selective optimization and compensation model and the theory of innovation of successful aging. We conclude that the theories are useful in providing a more profound understanding of social events and their settings and that the elderly have the possibility of being active agents with the power to change the nature of their social environments through the use of information and communication technologies.

As pesquisas demonstram que as novas tecnologias de informação e comunicação são importantes para a qualidade do processo de envelhecimento das pessoas idosas. Este artigo procura examinar a forma como teorias e modelos teóricos podem ajudar a refletir e problematizar sobre as transformações que ocorrem no curso de vida dos indivíduos mais velhos, bem como às adaptações a transformações no contexto tecnológico. Para isso, discutimos com base na perspetiva gerontecnológica, as teorias do curso de vida, o conceito de geração, as teorias do desengajamento e da atividade, o modelo de otimização seletiva com compensação e a teoria da inovação do envelhecimento bem-sucedido. Concluímos que as teorias são úteis na medida em que fornecem uma compreensão mais profunda de eventos sociais e das suas configurações e que os indivíduos idosos têm a possibilidade de serem agentes ativos e com poder de alterar a natureza de seus ambientes sociais através do uso das tecnologias de informação e comunicação.
