N2 - Borosilicate glasses, due to their low softening temperature, low thermalexpansion and low dielectric constant, have been considered promising materials fordifferent electronic industrial applications. Two series of glasses based on thequaternary BaO-ZnO-B2O3-SiO2 system have been developed, where the amount ofSiO2 was fixed at 10 mol%, the amount of B2O3 was 30 or 60 mol%, and the networkmodifier ZnO was gradually substituted by BaO. Bulk transparent glasses wereobtained by the conventional melting route, casting and annealing steps.Characterization of the glasses by differential thermal analysis (DTA) indicated thatfor a fixed BaO content, both the glass transition and glass crystallizationtemperatures increase with the B2O3/SiO2 ratio. The increase in B2O3/SiO2 ratiodecreased the coefficient of thermal expansion and the dielectric characteristics of theglasses.
