Abstract

This paper offers a discussion of the origins and ancestry of the medieval Office of the Dead in the Portuguese Augustinian Canons Regular use and the diocesan use of Évora through an analysis of the series of responsories and versicles at Matins, using securely identified manuscripts and early prints of both uses.
