Abstract

This article analyzes differences recorded in the construction and ageing of experimental rammed earth walls. After 10–12 years of exposure some superficial degradation was observed in some walls, pointing to the necessity of applying a compatible surface protection. The behavior of samples of the rammed earth similar to those used in the walls was also analyzed in terms of density, thermal conductivity, capillary absorption and drying. A different behavior was recorded between: different unstabilized soils, the same soil but with different grading, the same soil but stabilized with different hydraulic binders and different soils stabilized with the same binder.
