Abstract
The application of the extended producer responsibility in medicine packaging waste management system is discussed. Although the medicine packaging waste represents less than 0.5% of the Portuguese municipal solid waste, the results obtained during the last three years of operation of the system by Valormed, a non-profit society that is responsible for the system management, were reported, and revealed an increase in the medicine packaging waste collection, and the consolidation of the medicine packaging waste and infrastructures.
