Abstract

A range of spectroscopic measurements were performed on 2-furanmethanol (furfuryl alcohol), all of which were interpreted on the assumption that substitution of a ring H by the CH2OH group has only a slight effect on the frontier orbitals of the furan system. All of the spectra were interpreted by analogy with furan.
