In this article we discuss the historical formation of Portuguese capitalism in the period from XXIX to XX (proletarianisation, economic concentration), focusing on the analysis of the historical project of national development of the opposition as a failed project. We have analysed the evolution of political regimes, from the Bonapartist dictatorship of Salazar to the current restrictive representative democracy, and its relationship with the disciplining of the workforce in Portugal and the territories of the former colonies.
