Abstract

The InformationandCommunication Technologies play increasingly a fundamental role to supportteachingandonlinelearninginengineeringcourses.Inparticular,WirelessSensorandActuatorNetworks(WSAN) are simultaneously a matter of interest for severalengineeringcoursesanda way to enable remote access to laboratory experiments. The RemoteandVirtual Laboratory of the Department of InformaticsEngineeringof the University of Coimbra (Portugal) is part of the flock.uc.pt web-based platform under development to allow users to perform remoteandvirtual experimentsinseveralengineeringdomains. This paper aims to describe its potentialusemainlyinengineeringcourses, but alsoinlifelonglearningprograms. The main features of the remote experimentsandthe potential of the WSAN to interact with lab systems are described.
