Abstract
Barium zinc borosilicate glasses with a molar composition xBaO-(30-x)ZnO-60B2O3-10SiO2, where x ranged from 0 to 30 mol%, were prepared by melt-quenching method and the effect of BaO substitution for ZnO on the structural characteristics has been investigated. FTIR, Raman and MAS NMR results show that the addition of ZnO increases the formation of BO4 units, decreasing BO3 units, leading to the decrease of borate non-bridging oxygen (NBO).
