Abstract

The manufacturing industry has high energy requirements. In order to allow producers to have competitive prices, it is mandatory to save money in the different phases of product manufacturing. These savings may be achieved by consuming and wasting less raw material, addressing better product traceability and a more efficient product designs, or even by improving the management of the machinery in all the production phases. This paper describes a standard-based approach to save energy in the different phases of product manufacturing through the connection of energy related devices. Through monitoring, the most spender phase in terms of energy will be spotted and actions will be taken in the respective manufacturing phase. The traceability of the product during the manufacturing phase will be made with Radio Frequency Identification (RFID).
