Some aspects of Environmental Impact assessment of Sweet and Fibre Sorghum crops in Southern areas of Portugal

Abstract

The use of enrgetic crops must be studied in terms of the evaluation of their environmental impacts, in order to integrate them in a sustainable agriculture development, not only in Europe but in other regions where those crops are or could be cultivated. In the present work, some aspects of the ecological sustainabilityof sweet and fiber sorghum crops in Portugal had been evaluated, in terms of energy balances, emission of greenhouse and acidifying gases, emission of minerals to soil and water and soil erosion.
