Abstract
Planned for the right bank of river Gilão, south Portugal, Tavira fishing harbour presents some difficult thick soft soils, namely in the area of the vertical quay breakwaters, where both the stability as well as the allowable settlements were not guaranteed. This paper outlines a brief overview of the foundation soil characteristics and the implemented solution for the particular case of the vertical quay breakwaters is analyzed, both for the expected settlements, as for the overall stability, in static situation.
