Abstract
The soft soils existing in the foundations of the new Tavira fishing harbour project, in the south of Portugal, present some interesting problems, besides the more obvious structural foundations problems. One of the problems that it is necessary to solve is the excessive settlements expected in some platform areas, with unacceptable differential settlement expected values. Several solutions were considered, and the adopted one includes the use of PVD complemented with surcharges. Several analyses were performed, and the results for the expected settlements are compared in this paper.
