Abstract
This paper reports a study of the safety characteristics of a manufacturing line of paper products. The method Safety Function Analysis (SFA) was applied for this purpose. The line was divided in sections, which were studied consecutively. For one of them, 36 safety functions (SF) were identified and evaluated. In general, most SFs were found to have good performance but a few shortfalls were also unveiled during the analysis. Consequently, a number of specific recommendations were proposed to improve safety in the line.
