Abstract
It is known since the 1990’s that electrical polarization of hydroxyapatite (HA) based materials enhances osteointegration. However published results do not dwell much on questions has reproducibility and stability of dipolar orientation and/or the charge distribution. Using commercial powders of HA, biphasic (HA/β-tricalcium phosphate (TCP)) and a new composite of nanorods of HA and chitosan (CS) samples were prepared by pressing and polarized by contact poling. Results show that HA pure samples show the better reproducibility and stability. Because of water content the samples of HA/CS are the ones revealing less reproducibility.
