Abstract
In various codices produced in the Cistercian monastery of St. Maria of Alcobaça, up to the eighteenth century, the monks left brief accounts of miraculous events, related in particular to natural phenomena that caused them astonishment and fear. In the monastery library we also find texts related to mirabilia, copied by the Alcobaça scriptorium and translated into Portuguese in some cases. The Alcobaça community saw itself, from very early on, as a guardian of memories, some quite extraordinary, linked to the history of its own foundation, or to the kingdom of Portugal.
