Abstract
[EN] Site museums are one of the innovation vectors of the museum landscape of Cape Verde and they are deserving of a careful analysis, which is the conducting theme of this study. The conceptual questions inherent to this type of museum constitute the launching ramp for that analysis, which will allow us to establish a comparison with typological categories that are akin to historic house museums. Along this line of questioning we will also introduce a concise reference to museums that are centred on botanical and environmental heritage, i.e., botanical gardens and natural parks. Following this, we will be presenting a retrospect of the evolution of other Cape-Verdean museums. That will lead us to the ongoing project for a national museum, which we will juxtapose to various proposals that have been made for the creation of regional and specialised museums. Adding to this, we will take a brief glance at the patrimonial status of Cidade Velha, given the importance it has on the national context. The site museum of the Chão Bom Prison Camp will be shown as a case-study for the issue at hand. In this project’s analysis we will be combining an historical evaluation with the study of the current situation. This second approach will be guided by four different parameters: typological framework, testimonial characteristics, program methodology and relationship with the publ.
