Abstract
This article presents the research strategy for the ProGramma group of the Centro de Linguística da Universidade Nova de Lisboa. The ProGramma project aims to study several aspects of European Portuguese grammar from the perspective of the theoretical framework of grammaticalization. Grammaticalization research claims to unify linguistic phenomena occurring in different linguistic levels. Moreover, it has motivated in the last decade a wealth of discussion surrounding a number of theoretical and methodological issues, thus providing an adequate context for the development of the study of different processes – morphological, syntactic, semantic – both from a synchronic and diachronic perspective. In this article, we will present an overview of the theoretical background and main research topics, and will briefly describe some selected case studies.
