PROFILES OF VOLATILE HYDROCARBON COMPOUNDS, MARKERS OF DEGRADATION/AGEING OF CELLULOSIC MATERIAL AND DISEASE MARKERS

Research output: PatentInternational PCT application

Abstract

The present invention relates to profiles (significant sets of features) of volatile organic compounds (VOC), namely hydrocarbon compounds with 2-24 carbon atoms (C2-C24), using solid phase micro-extraction (SPME) and high-resolution gas chromatography associated with mass spectrometry (GC-MS) as profile identification methods. The present invention identifies and characterises profiles of cellulosic material marking the degradation and/or ageing of items of cultural heritage, or identifies and characterises profiles of biological fluids marking the presence of a disease. The present invention identifies and characterises the chemical hydrocarbon components of the profiles marking the chemical degradation of cellulosic polymers or lipid peroxidation due to a disease.
