Pre-Certification of HSUN® Module According To IEC 62108

Abstract

The HSUN® is a medium Concentrated Photovoltaic (CPV) system based on reflective optics, with a concentration of 20 suns, under development by WS Energia S.A. In this paper a new method to achieve experimental advances in the pre-certification process of a concentrator is presented and applied to the HSUN®. The development of the proposed method is composed by two phases, the crash test and the pre-certification. Each test has a pass/fail criterion. This compendium of accelerated tests is essential to predict eventual failures during the certification process, in a time compressed way. This paper provides an insight on CPV certification tests as preliminarily defined in the IEC 62108. As a result from the performed tests, some improvements in design, soldering process and reinforcement of the mirrors support structure of HSUN® were implemented before beginning the certification process.
