Abstract
Enlargement is the European Union’s (EU) most complex policy. Historically, Portugal has been a supporter of the successive enlargement rounds, as much as any other existing Member State at the time. The future of Europe may or may not be related to further enlargement, which has been a contested issue, always problematic and never a priority. This chapter focus on the present and future of EU enlargement and Portugal’s position towards it.
