Abstract
The aim of this article was to analyze the motivations behind the police forces' actions in combating the Covid-19 pandemic in Portugal. The initial hypothesis predicted that motivations of a preventive nature would prevail over those of a coercive nature due to the fact that these forces had adopted the proximity policing model. The results showed that preventive motivations prevailed over coercive ones in Portugal during the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic. This shows that the proximity policing model has a high capacity to adjust to the adversities of the environment.
