Abstract

A post-war (World War II) Japanese dance by Ohno Kazuo (1906-2010) and Hijikata Tatsumi (1928-1986), the Butoh, appears to me through written, photographic and cinematographic documents. It is violently poetic, unpredictable, unsettling and naked. As a possible response to the invitation to write about one of the themes of the dance and philosophy project "Of the suicidal, the vice of humiliating immortality", by Joana von Mayer Trindade and Hugo Calhim Cristovão (2019), I chose the encounter between the word and body translated by the expression of the danced gesture in Ohno Kazuo and Hijikata Tatsumi's Butoh, as I imagine it to be: a poem-event in a place of metamorphosis between reality and dream.
