Abstract

In this article, I discuss the symbolic negotiation established in the cultural practices and behaviors associated with the Teatro de S. Carlos - between the end of the Portuguese New State and the period which succeeds the Revolution of April 25, 1974, addressing aesthetic and ideological dimensions of revolution and reaction, transgression and conformity, fidelity or disobedience to the canons. I examine how this negotiation participates in the reconfiguration of sociabilities and in the renewal of paradigms of knowledge and culture management, in a revolutionary context.
