Abstract

This article regards the concept of workers involvement within management processes. [15] It also hope to increase scope to information and consultation, mainly with respect to Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) related matters. Concerning Portugal, this scope is addressed within three levels: cross-industry, sectoral and company. Portugal has a system of social dialogue with a high incidence of workplace-based employee representation through worker councils (comissões de trabalhadores) and trade union delegates (representantes/delegados sindicais). There are comitties or councils alternative bodies for safety and health elected by the workforce. The article describes both direct and indirect participation forms with a focus on formal participation structures (legal instruments).
