Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze and evaluate the occupational risks inherent to nursing activities in the Hemato-Oncology Service Day Hospital (DH). The tasks to perform were subdivided into more specific routines, each associated with a subtask. The hazard identification methodology used was the JSA - Job Safety Analysis carried out through specific questions organized in questionnaires, one for each subtask. The risk assessment was based on the BS 8800:2004 matrix, modified on the probability of damage criteria for better adaptation to the hospital reality. The results were organized according to the 4 predefined tasks. The User Receiving task brought 15 Hazards, 16 Risks and 2 types of consequences, related to fatigue and conflicts issues and injury in accidents result. The Cytostatic Administration has 7 hazards that originate 9 risks, with 4 sorts of possible consequences, which include fatigue matters and conflicts, Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSD's), injuries in result of accidents and possible Work-Related Diseases. The Complementary Analysis Support and Execution duty presented 30 hazards, 36 risks and the same 4 groups of possible consequences identified on the previous task. Performing the Service Organization and Logistics Activities exposes professionals to 41 risks, caused by 41 hazards presence and consequences of three types, which include fatigue situations and conflicts, MSDs and injuries resulting from accidents. It was concluded that the efficiency of the nursing personal works is constrained by the high workload and the physical conditions on the DH.
