O texto literário como objeto de estudo (legítimo) em linguística

The aim of this presentation is to review the development of the relationship between language studies and literary studies, ascertaining the ontological and methodological reasons why, at different times, this relationship was minimized. Two situations will be taken into account in order to justify the full legitimacy of studying the literary text through the lens of linguistics: (i) The way natural language acts in the literary phenomenon: in the literary text, language is activated in a marked or altered way, but always assuming some limits which are derived from the forms and principles of the linguistic system. (ii) The way literature acts in the language, as in the case of vocabulary expansion as a consequence of the literary activity through times. In addition, it will be developed an analysis of the poem Imagem by Miguel Torga in the light of the deictic referencing phenomenon, particularly regarding the relationship between suireferentiality and exogenous referentiality as a maximally effective mechanism of fictive transposition.
