Abstract
O monumento funerário de Isabel de Aragão, rainha de Portugal, hoje em dia situado no coro baixo da igreja do mosteiro de Santa Clara-a-Nova em Coimbra, está tradicionalmente datado de 1329-1330 pela historiografia. Neste artigo propõe-se antecipar a realização do mausoléu para 1326-1327, com base na reconstrução do contexto histórico e espiritual dentro do qual amadureceu a encomenda do túmulo; nas informações colhidas nas fontes narrativas e documentais; nas evidências materiais; e na análise iconográfica, estilística e comparativa com a produção escultórica coeva. Estabelece-se uma comparação entre o sarcófago da rainha Isabel e o sepulcro da sua neta, a infanta Isabel.
The funerary monument of Isabel of Aragon, Queen of Portugal, today housed at the lower choir at the church of the monastery of Santa Clara-a-Nova at Coimbra, is traditionally dated from 1329-1330. This article proposes to anticipate the accomplishment of the sarcophagus to 1326-1327. This proposal is based on: the reconstruction of the historical and spiritual context
in which the project of the tomb was conceived; the information collected in the narrative and documentary primary sources; the material evidences; and the iconographic, stylistic and comparative analyses with the contemporary sculpture production. It is established a comparison between the sarcophagus of Queen Isabel and the sepulchre of her granddaughter Isabel.
