Abstract
This essay will look into the congruence between the textual history of the core of Lispector’s “O Crime do Professor de Matemática” – so often rewritten throughout her oeuvre – and its depiction of a crime reinstated and denied closure in order to relate the interplay of doubles and substitutive gestures that the story sets in motion with Family Ties’s dynamic (at once rhetorical, formal and thematic) questioning of the limits and boundaries of the short story.
