Abstract
The purpose of this text is to present the concept of Museo Difuso (Diffuse Museum), which has as a starting point the Italian model and experience of the Museo Difuso (in the Valle del Liri area along the historical railway line Roccasecca-Avezzano) and apply it to the Portuguese context to elaborate a strategy to preserve and develop the territory. The territory chosen as the Linha do Oeste (West Line) immediately brings us back to the presence of a railway line. It will be, in fact, the railway station - the central structure in the life of small villages (Bombarral, Óbidos, and Caldas da Rainha) - the gateway to the discovery and knowledge of the surrounding territory.
