O ideal Caeiro

By analyzing a less discussed thesis of Eduardo Lourenço in Pessoa Revisitado regarding the contrast between the ideal function of master Caeiro and his poetic reality, this article focuses on the treatment of this contrast throughout the critical reception. Lourenço’s diagnosis of a misconception by critics is productive in order to point out the differences between the readings, also helping to understand the importance of the contrast, which was already made explicit in Pessoa’s texts regarding the conception of the work and figure of Alberto Caeiro.

Analisando uma tese menos discutida de Eduardo Lourenço, em Pessoa Revisitado, a respeito do contraste entre a função ideal do mestre Caeiro e a sua realidade poética, o artigo foca o tratamento deste contraste ao longo da tradição crítica. O diagnóstico de Lourenço de um equívoco por parte da crítica revela-se produtivo para marcar as diferenças entre as leituras, ajudando também a entender a importância do contraste, previsto e explicitado nos próprios textos pessoanos, na conceção da obra e da figura de Alberto Caeiro.
