Abstract
This paper aims to present a description of the distribution of synthetic and compound forms of the future and the conditional in Portuguese journalistic texts. Therefore, the research work is based on the analysis of linguistic forms in different types of corpora, so as to assess their distribution in concrete text genres. The analysis of the occurrences shows the close relationship between the linguistic values and the construction of text genres. In particular, it becomes clear that the distinction between opinion and news is insufficient to account for the multiplicity of dynamic interactions between forms and texts, and the future and/or the conditional do not have, for example, the same value in criminal news or in a different context. It is intended, therefore, to show how the future and the conditional contribute to the construction of text genres, and how gender helps define the values of the occurrences.
