Abstract
Following the attacks on Júlio Dantas, Almada Negreiros begins a series of panegyric discourse towards Amadeo deSouza-Cardoso. His efforts would contribute not only to mythicize the painter, but also to guarantee him a privileged place in thePortuguese modernist Orpheu magazine. This paper will focus on the way Almada’s speeches created a representation of Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso (influent in some historiographical production)that defies Fernando Pessoa’s perspective concerning the role of painting in Orpheu. The second part will open the way to other interpretative possibilities based on Nietzsche’s overman appropriations.
