Abstract
When we ask ouselves what it means to be human, we can try to answer this question by means of two methods that, in general, are closed to each other: the analysis of drives, originated in Freud's hypothesis on the human psyche, and the analysis of presence, or daseinsanalyse, that has its origins in the works of Heidegger. Maldiney's book chapter that we refer to, Pulsion et présence, is the fourth of a collection published in 1991 under the title Penser l'homme et la Folie. Its background is a fertile dialogue between daseinsanalyse and the drive theory and ot allows us to broaden our understanding of the way selfhood, questioned through these traditions, is related to freedom, community and fate.
