Abstract
This article is based on the commercial career of Jacinto Fernandes Bandeira, a businessman from Lisbon, in the second half of the 18th century. Our goal is, by tracing his course, to understand in what way the networks that he creates or in which he is inserted were determinants for his success in the business world that catapult the Portuguese commercial elite towards the end of that century. We will therefore draw a commercial biography, which begins with his coming to the capital of the Empire and ends with the crowning of his career, when he is awarded the title of 1st Baron of Porto Covo da Bandeira, being the first Portuguese financier to enter in the nobility of the Kingdom.
