Monitoring of respiratory mechanics: Use of thoracoabdominal bands during NIV

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapterpeer-review

Abstract

Non-invasive ventilation (NIV) is an effective treatment in respiratory failure but should be systematically monitored to guarantee ventilation quality and efficacy. NIV monitoring includes a multimodal assessment such as clinical evaluation, arterial blood gases, oximetry and capnography and data provided by ventilators. Technology advances have been useful in long term patient monitoring adding information to ensure follow up. Latest generation of home ventilators are being designed with sophisticated built-in software capable of recording useful parameters for patient monitoring.
