Metodologias digitais no estudo da administração periférica do Estado: O caso do clero paroquial (1833-1911)

O papel social e político do clero paroquial durante a Monarquia Liberal portuguesa é frequentemente referido, mas está insuficientemente estudado, ao contrário do que sucede com esse grupo social noutras historiografias. Este artigo visa apresentar o trabalho em curso sobre o segmento eclesiástico do funcionalismo administrativo nesse período de confessionalidade do Estado Português que deverá resultar na identificação dos indivíduos; na localização geográfica dos seus empregos e
respetivas tipologias; na avaliação das suas carreiras. Identificando as fontes que suportam essa investigação, apresenta a forma como as mesmas foram tratadas recorrendo a metodologias digitais. Em concreto, as possibilidades analíticas abertas pelas virtualidades da base de dados relacional onde são compilados tanto os elementos biográficos dos indivíduos que integraram o clero paroquial durante a Monarquia liberal, quanto os respetivos elementos relativos aos diversos processos
de nomeação para o conjunto de paróquias em que, então, se articulava a administração eclesiástica do Estado Português.

The social and political role of the parish clergy during the Portuguese Liberal Monarchy is frequently mentioned, but it is insufficiently studied, contrary to what happens with this social group in other historiographies. This article aims to present the ongoing research on the ecclesiastical administrative staff segment in the confessional period of the Portuguese State, which should result in the identification of individuals; the geographic location of their jobs and respective typologies; in evaluating their careers. By identifying the sources that support this investigation, this paper presents the way they were treated using digital methodologies. Moreover, it presents the analytical possibilities opened by the features of the relational database. On one hand, the biographical elements of the individuals who were part of the parish clergy during the Liberal Monarchy. On another, the respective elements related to their various nomination processes for the set of parishes in which, then, the ecclesiastical administration of the Portuguese State was articulated.
