Abstract
This chapter describes the application of a participatory modelling methodology to a case study conducted in the lower part of the Guadiana River Basin, referred to as “Baixo Guadiana”. Mediated modelling was used as a tool to support the active participation of the interested parties in the scoping of the Baixo Guadiana problems, pressures and impacts. A stakeholder group collaborated throughout three workshops in the interactive development of qualitative and quantitative models addressing the main problematiques of this river basin. The paper aims to contribute with further insight on how to promote effective participation of the interested parties in water resources planning and management.
