Las catedrales en la narrativa historiográfica peninsular: lugares de memoria, protección y escenario (ss. XIV-XV)

El objetivo principal del presente estudio es el análisis de la representación escrita de un edificio emblemático de la Iglesia, como es la catedral, en las crónicas oficiales de los reinos cristianos peninsulares en el período que cubre la Guerra de los Cien Años y el Cisma.
El interés se centrará en los tres aspectos considerados emblemáticos de esa representación: las catedrales como espacios para la memoria colectiva; como lugares de protección a los desvalidos; y como escenarios de episodios políticos de especial importancia histórica. Se atenderá tanto a la intencionalidad declarada, como a la velada, por parte de los autores y los patrocinadores de los textos historiográficos.

The principal aim of this article is the analysis of the representation – in textual form – of one of the most emblematic building of Medieval Church, like the cathedral, within the official chronicles of Iberian kingdoms during the Hundred Years War and the Western Schism. Our focus will be on the three main aspects of this representation: cathedrals as spaces for collective memory; as places of protection for defenceless; and as scene for relevant political historical moments. We will also attend to the intention behind the text, declared or not, both from the author and the historiographical text’s sponsor.
