Abstract
This article aims to identify and analyse the aesthetic attributes of the new Catalan independence discourses and practices since the Spanish Tribunal Constitucional's resolution against the Estatut d'autonomia de Catalunya in June 2010. Catalonia, as other nations, declares its existence in search of the recognition of sovereignty and of its own state. The feeling of humiliation provoked by the TC and the successive attacks of Spanish Government as well as the economic and political crisis of the country, represents an opportunity to revive old latent nationalisms that give rise to the new independence process. Recent episodes as the referendum and the consequent proclamation of the Catalan Republic motivated new reactions from the State that boosted the independent feeling and process. The image is recognized as a fundamental element of the process, in which, through new technologies and communication strategies, strengthens the reactivation of symbols related to identity, culture and tradition, enabling the creation of realities to be consumed by the target audiences. A short review of concepts will be essential to contextualize this study, as well as an approximation of the main participants. Finally, the content and its forms, the delimitation of a "we" in front of a "them" recognized in this new independence movement and its continuous interrelation will be approached.
