Kinetics of the hydrogenation of carbon catalysed by Mo, by Ni, and by their mixture

Abstract

In this study the authors make a contribution to a better understanding of the kinetics of carbon gasification by Mo and by Ni and by its mixture. In addition, they present results of in-situ X-ray diffraction (XRD) which give new information about the physical state of the catalysts during the course of the reaction. The nature of the bulk phase of the catalysts has been found by in situ XRD. The nature of the surface must be established by other techniques. However, in a process believed to involve carbon difusion through the catalyst, the nature of the bulk and of carbon-catalyst interaction is equally important. The bulk phases present under reaction conditions have been established. The kinetics of carbon gasification by Mo-Ni mixtures follows the pattern observed for Ni, with two temperature regions of activity. Values of orders and activation energies were measured.
