Abstract
Martensitic transformations in NiTi shape memory alloys (SMAs) have been studied by employing various analytical techniques and possible kinetics involved in the phase transformations have been discussed in the literature. However, these studies have rarely focussed to determine the transformation temperatures with consistency and repeatability. In this study, we aim to explore the kinetics of martensitic transformations in a Ti-rich Ni-Ti Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) taking into consideration the results obtained from Dilatometric and Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) techniques. The responses of these techniques to the phase transformations are found to be dissimilar. Further in the case of DSC analysis, a new method, which is found to be more consistent in determining the transformation temperatures, has been proposed.
