Abstract
In Portugal, economic journalism emerged after April 25, 1974 and began to gain relevance after Portugal's entry into the European Economic Community (EEC) in 1986. The growing public interest in the economy led to the creation of sections/editorials specialized in economic issues. But the great affirmation of economic journalism took place at the time of the international economic crisis of 2008, that later led to the intervention of the IMF, ECB and the European Commission (troika) in Portugal from 2011 to 2014, in which the economy dominated political, social and economic life, and began to adopt "new" formats in economic journalism, in a way to satisfy the needs of citizens, through a type of useful information - news to use - a format that complements/ deepens the news. Through the qualitative technique of the interview, seven interviews were carried out with journalists of the economic newspapers Jornal de Negócios and Diário Económico in order to understand how the use of these formats was consolidated, at the same time we understand the praxis of economic journalism in the context of economic and financial crisis. The results show that the economic and financial crisis had repercussions in Portuguese economic journalism through the implementation of new journalistic formats that sought to clarify and deepen the issues that most concerned and disturbed citizens at a critical moment in portuguese society.
